He started out his career as a news caster and later on got his own show Sar e Aam which became very popular with the masses. Iqrar has been married two times. He shares a son Pehlaaj Hassan with first wife Qurutulain Iqrar who used to be a news reader herself and later on she started teaching after she left the channel. Their son Pehlaaj Hassan has also been on the channel since he was a child He has also hosted shows, done acting and now a days he is concentrating on his studies.

His first wife Qurat-ul-Ain Hassan now called Qurat-ul-Ain Iqrar whom he got married in 2005 is a journalist. Iqrar-ul-Hassan and Qurat-ul-Ain have a son together named Pehlaaj Hassan (b. 2010).
